Stay Loose

A big tip that we share is to wear loose fitting clothing post op.

Now is not the time to try to get into your skinny jeans. Wear clothes that are not binding across your belly for your best comfort. This is just temporary! You will get back into your favorite jeans, but give your body time to heal.

During your recovery, your belly is likely to be tender and swollen. We love this “Wear Around Shirt” made with 100% cotton and comes in several colors. They are customer favorites!

Stay comfy during your surgery recovery.

Can’t avoid stairs?

For some stairs cannot be avoided during recovery. No need to worry! Go up the stairs backwards!

When going up backwards, you take the pressure off your abdominal muscles. Do try to avoid using the stairs multiple times a day. Make sure to go slowly and use a hand rail if possible.

Don’t let stairs make you nervous, just turn around before heading up.

Tip: No Heavy Lifting

It’s recommended not to lift anything over 5-10 pounds for the first two weeks (at least!) after surgery. A good visual of this is a gallon of milk.  The lifting can cause pressure in the abdominal cavity, and that is the area that needs the recovery! This is the time to listen to your body, take it easy, and ask for help.

Depending on the type of surgery, and if there were any complications, the lifting ban could proceed for longer. Please make sure to be cleared by your doctor before doing any strenuous lifting.
