Tips for Swelly Belly

Swelly Belly is just a part of having a hysterectomy, or any abdominal surgery! Being prepared can help you in your recovery.

Make sure to wear loose fitting clothing. Now is not the time for jeans, but leggings and oversized tshirts. Wanting to look a little more modest for company or an outing – throw on a cardigan!

As you move further along in recovery and you are wanting to wear jeans, don’t get frustrated when you just can’t quite get them to button. The Waist Band Extender is the perfect solution for the in-between time. The swelling can sometimes last for a few weeks, but no need to buy new pants! Add the waist band extender to your pants and get up to an additional 6 inches for comfort.

Each woman is different in terms of swelly belly – how long, how swelly. Just be prepared, and be gentle on yourself as your body recovers.

Hydrate!

Summer is hot! We typically need more water in these months anyway, but having surgery recovery during these months means EVEN MORE water needed!

We recommend keeping a water bottle near you at all times. There are even apps that set off alarms often to remind you to take sips.

During your hysterectomy recovery, your body relies on water to help it return to its normal functions. Your bladder needs to wake up. Your intestines need the extra fluid to keep your bowel movements soft.

Add to those reasons, water helps to flush out toxins of anesthesia and medicines that are no longer needed.  Think of water as clearing out the debris!

Water also helps prevent UTI as it dilutes urine and provides a natural work-out for your kidneys.

So make sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
